Originating from the Oceanic Institute (O.I.), this stock had been bred for fast growth since Dr. Jim's days as founding Principal Investigator of the U.S. Marine Shrimp Farming Program (USMFP) at O.I.
HHA SPF TVR™: HHA's SPF TVR™ P. vannamei (Pacific White) is certified disease free and has been bred for Taura Virus (TSV) Resistance and growth for over 8 generations. TVR™ is HHA's brand of Specific Pathogen Resistance (SPR). When HHA developed the concept of SPR, it was met with great skepticism by the shrimp research community. The success of HHA and the verification by, the shrimp research community has led to acceptance of the SPR concept. Shortly after TVR™ (SPR) was established at HHA, there was criticism due to reduced growth in SPR shrimp. The research community stated that there may be a negative correlation between disease resistance and growth in shrimp. HHA believed that the growth rates could be improved through selecting for growth. In developing the SPR broodstock, HHA had only selected for resistance. With over 8 generations of selecting for fast growth in our TVR™ families, HHA's TVR™ lines share the same fast growth characteristics of our SPF Kona families. In 2005, the research community has verified that faster growth in Taura Resistant strains could be achieved through breeding.
HHA SPF GxTVR™: HHA's SPF GxTVR™ P. vannamei (Pacific White) is certified disease free and has been bred and hybrid crossed for fast growth and Taura Virus Resistance. The use of HHA's SPF GxTVR™ genetics is helping shrimp producers Maximize Yields and Minimize Risks.
HHA SPF Monodon: HHA's SPF P. monodon (Black Tiger) is certified disease free and has been bred for fast growth over 8 generations. Recently hybrid crossed between Australian and Red Sea origins, continued improvement in growth rates are being achieved. HHA SPF Stylirostris: HHA's SPF P. stylirostris (Pacific Blue) is certified disease free and has been bred for fast growth. HHA has recently produced founding stock of Stylirostris for a New Caledonia Shrimp Association (UPRAC and IFREMER).
HHA SPF Japonicus: HHA's SPF P. japonicus (Kuruma Ebi) is certified disease free and has been bred for fast growth. Kuruma ebi commands high market prices in the Tokyo market. The sweet meat, firm texture and colorful banding of Kuruma ebi makes it perfect for sashimi (raw) or Tempura (breaded and deep fried) in Japan. Kuruma ebi is a temperate species and HHA uses deep sea water to cultivate this stock.
